Magic paint could save cyclists’ lives

SINGAPORE — Volvo dealer Wearnes Automotive has launched LifePaint, a reflective spray that’s invisible in the day but brighter than a Colgate model’s smile when hit by a car’s headlights.

The paint costs $48 a can, and each application lasts about a week. The stuff also comes off with soap so it can be spritzed directly onto clothes.
Volvo reckons bicyclists should spray it on and light up at night, so as to become more visible (and less likely to be crashed into) by dozy drivers.
imageVolvo says it launched LifePaint as part of its goal to have zero accident fatalities by 2020.
Some of its cars have cyclist detection systems to prevent collisions with riders, but the reflective paint is meant to increase their visibility to the driver and not the car.
Now, riders who want a safer ride at night can begin each journey with a simple ritual: Let us spray.
