Report: Barcelona set to lose wonderkid on a free transfer next summer
Remember a time when La Masia was the main provider of Barcelona's world-conquering talent? That time is gone, and now some great talents are leaving the club for nothing. Literally, nothing.
Great prospects like Gerard Deulofeu,
Adama Traoré and many others have left Barça without getting a real
chance due to many circumstances, most of them by an incredibly low sum
of money. But right now, things are getting ridiculous.
One of the best young players coming through La Masia is
Alejandro Grimaldo, a fantastic left-back who can also play as a
midfielder with some amazing skills on and off the pitch. His
performances with Barça B in recent years have earned him rightful
comparisons with Bayer Munich star Phillip Lahm, and he overcame a
serious injury to go back to a really high level.
But coach Luis Enrique
doesn't even consider calling up the 20-year-old, choosing to give
minutes to Adriano Correia, who isn't playing at a Barça level for quite
some time. Adriano is discussing a contract extension, but Grimaldo
isn't. In fact, Catalan radio reports that the Blaugrana aren't interested in renewing their agreement with the player, which expires next July.
That
means that Grimaldo is very likely to leave the club on a free transfer
next summer, and several teams, including a few in the Champions
League, are keen on signing the young Spaniard, sources say. If that
happens, another incredible talent could go away without no meaningful
chance.
