We’ve known for some months now
that young British actor Tom Holland will be the next big-screen
Spider-Man - and, thanks to the somewhat historic deal struck by Marvel
and Spider-Man rights holders Sony, the first to appear as part of the
Marvel Cinematic Universe.
However, to date the 19 year old actor himself hasn’t said much in public on the subject - so naturally Hey U Guys
did not waste the opportunity to grab a few words from Holland when he
showed up at the premiere of the new Ed Sheeran concert film ‘Jumpers
For Goalposts.’
Holland
recently worked with another notable Marvel star, Chris Hemsworth, on
upcoming Ron Howard movie ‘In The Heart of the Sea,’ and says the Thor
actor gave him some interesting tips on how to handle being a big screen
superhero.
“Hemsworth is a
good friend of mine… he sent me a congratulatory note and also just a
few words of advice: remain cool, it’s all going to get pretty crazy,
but just enjoy life while no one knows who you are. And do some
travelling.”
It
was also noted that Holland seemed to be sporting a bit of a gash on
his nose, which it seems came as a result of the actor’s recently shot
scenes for his debut appearance in next year’s ‘Captain America: Civil
War.’“It was my own mistake. I basically fell over and bashed my face in front of about two hundred crew members, so not my most heroic moment!
“It was luckily just before my last shot; they were like, ‘Roll cameras!’ I was getting into position, everything went wrong, and they still did the take anyway.
“It looks great and they’ll probably just CGI out all the blood, and yeah, I was very lucky.”
Asked whether he’ll be taking inspiration from the comics and his predecessors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, Holland remarked, “I think it’s impossible not to. They were so great, so real and rich performances. There’s obviously factors that I love and will continue to try and recreate.
“But I think the most important thing at the moment is making a film which is obviously of the same character, but making a different, new and exciting movie.”
We’ll
see Tom Holland as Spider-Man for the first time when ‘Captain America:
Civil War’ opens on 29 April 2016. The as-yet untitled ‘Spider-Man’ solo
film from director Jon Watts will follow in July 2017.
Before
that, Holland can be seen alongside Chris Hemsworth (and a massive CGI
whale) when ‘In The Heart of the Sea’ opens in UK cinemas on Christmas
Day
